New York City’s water supply is one of the cleanest and purest in any major city and it is also unfiltered.  It provides approximately 1.2 billion gallons of high quality drinking water to nearly one-half the population of New York State every day.  The NY watershed’s forests, swamps and soils act as natural filters, removing pollutants, and making NYC’s drinking water supply the largest unfiltered system in the U.S.

I was in the city recently and noticed this highly popular stand in Brooklyn offering the famously good NY water to anyone with a water bottle. The good people of NY seem very good on sustainable water and I saw few people buying plastic water bottles. I hope these great little ‘street wells’ pop up all over the city.
